This is really for american guys as I do not know the requirments in other countries. This addresses the Affidavit of Support required by BCIS of the U.S. I STRONGLY urge all of you to read it and FULLY understand the ramifications of it. It is a CONTRACT between you and the Federal government, and makes you financially responsible for her and her children (if any) for 10 years (40 working quarters) UNLESS she becomes a U.S. citizen. So let's say she gets her green card in 2 years, and decides to seek greener grass and dumps you like a hot rock in divorce court. She moves on with some other guy or in an apartment on her own. She has poor paying job, no car insurance, no health or dental insurance. She's driving one day and gets in an accident. She's in the hospital with no insurance, but they provide treatment to save her life or limb. By LAW, they can and will come after YOU to pay the bills even after the divorce. Guess who the other party in the car wreck will sue? YOU. Let's take this a tad further and she hooks up with another guy. She gets pregnant, he dumps her. She goes to government agencies for federal or state assistance. Guess who gets the bill for that? Nope, not the guy who got her preganant, but YOU. Don't believe it? Well, better make a call to your BCIS liason officer with your Congressman's office. He or she will verify how dangerous that Affidavit of Support really is.
USCIS has this procedure to prevent immigrants from getting public assistance. If this is a contract between you and the government, why are you responsible for her actions against a third party?
